Principal’s Message

Trailblazer Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year. As we move together into this school year, the faculty and staff at Twin Hickory Elementary School join me in saying we’re happy to have each of you as part of the Twin Hickory learning community. We look forward to the engaging learning opportunities that your child will experience both inside and outside of the classroom this year. Our faculty and staff is dedicated to providing students a nurturing school environment, building positive relationships, focusing on the individual growth of each child, and establishing high expectations for learning.

Twin Hickory is proud to be one of Henrico County’s most diverse elementary schools representing over 30 countries and languages. We are a fully accredited 21st century learning environment that is proud to share our 2014 National Blue Ribbon School recognition. In addition, our outdoor Learning Garden contains 30 raised beds, a fully functioning greenhouse, and a physical fitness shed. We are also excited about having our very own maker space lab for our students to use!

This year, our school theme will continue to be “Trailblazers Stick Together.” Our theme focuses on and commits to providing a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and innovative environment to our diverse community of learners to ensure success for each student. We will continue to support the foundation of social and emotional development of our future community leaders as they start the journey to becoming life ready. Our goal is for students to know that we care about them and we are committed to helping them grow not only academically, but socially and emotionally. We want ALL students and families to know they are accepted and welcome here at THES. #WeAreTwinHickory

Our teachers will continue to facilitate lessons that challenge students to imagine, create, assess, and apply their knowledge to real-life scenarios. Using the Four Pillars of Deeper Learning of the Henrico Learner Profile: “Learning is Anytime, Anywhere,” “Learning is Authentic & Connected,” “Learning is Student-owned,” and “Learning is Community Supported,” our students experience learning that supports growth in the Six C’s: Communication, Collaboration, Global Citizen, Quality Character, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. It is our hope that their experiences at Twin Hickory will prepare them for the many adventures awaiting them beyond elementary school and ultimately make them #LifeReady!

Lastly, please make sure you check out our PTA website and look for the many places we could use your support this year as a volunteer. No job is too small and volunteering is a great way to meet other Trailblazer families! Please consider committing your time this school year. Together we can make a difference!

If at any time I can be of service to you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. It is my goal to make our building inviting for families throughout the school year.

Sincerely,

Brooke Davis
